OUR COMPANY

 

Founded in 30 May 1984, BARKO INTERNATIONAL, INC. commenced as a ship-manning agency for Japanese-owned commercial vessels on the worldwide trade route.  Our mission is to provide safe and efficient services to satisfy our principals' needs at all times.  We are geared to provide quality crewing services for the maritime industry in accordance with IMO, STCW ’78 as amended, ISM and ISO 9001:2008 standards. 

 

Through the years, we have earned a reputation as one of the leading manning agents in the Philippines, having been awarded by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) as Top Performer for the years 1991, 1996 and 1998; given a special citation for Family Services for year 2000; and an Award of Excellence for year 2002 and 2005.

 

We are an active participant in the development of our local maritime industry, being a contributor in related legislative agenda and member of the International Maritime Association of the Philippines (INTERMAP); three of the major local manning associations: the Filipino Association for Mariners' Employment, Inc. (FAME) and Philippine Association of Manning Agencies and Shipmanagers (PAMAS), and the Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council (PJMCC); and the umbrella organization of local manning and maritime associations, the Joint Manning Group (JMG).  Our company achieved ISO 9002:1994 accreditation in 1997, ISO 9001:2000 in 2003, and ISO 9001:2008 in 2009, from Class NK.

 

Presently there are over 300,000 Filipino seafarers employed by foreign ship owners on board their commercial vessels.  Being at the forefront, Barko plays an important role in this tremendous workforce.  With the future in view, our focus is on improving the condition of the local ship-manning industry, developing and promoting the Filipino seaman as a world-class seafarer, enhancing quality Filipino management and service in our field, and contributing to nation-building.
